Cosatu Protest

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) has warned of a "total shutdown" of all economic and public activity in KwaZulu-Natal as it embarks on a one-day nationwide stayaway on Wednesday to protest against the high cost of living.

Its Provincial Secretary, Zet Luzipo, said the federation would demonstrate against rising fuel costs, interest rates and electricity and food costs. He said the stayaway, which would include taxi associations, would be hard-hitting and bring major cities and towns to a standstill.

The stayaway comes amid escalating costs that have seen the petrol price increasing almost monthly to more than R10 a litre. "Cosatu has scheduled Wednesday as a day of unprecedented mass demonstration against the rising fuel costs, interest rates, electricity costs and food costs," Luzipo said.

"There shall be no public transport on that day since taxi associations and motorists will form part of the demonstration," said Luzipo. He said the stayaway would affect the criminal justice system, hospitals and clinics, and big marches would take place in Durban and Newcastle.

The Ed's Comment:
The drive to work was a bloody pleasant one this morning.
Quite frankly this isn't a South African problem, it's a global problem ya dumb shits. Get with the programme! The world is going to hell in a handbasket...
